Camino de Santiago
This month we are thrilled to share Bridget Agius’s Camino story and dive into the transformative power of personal pilgrimage.
The Camino de Santiago can be described in various ways from being an ancient and contemporary pilgrimage to simply just being a very long walk. The Camino starts at various points around Europe and its paths lead towards the north western Spanish town of Santiago. The Camino Frances is the most popular route beginning in St Jean Pierre de Port in southern France and stretching 780 kilometres to Santiago. Most routes towards Santiago have excellent infrastructure with hostels (known as albergues) dotted along the way for low cost accommodation, making walking relatively safe and accessible for solo and group travellers. Literally translated from the Spanish as ‘the way of Saint James’, the Camino de Sant-Iago has a history embedded in the Christian apostle James, whose bones are claimed to be entombed within the cathedral in Santiago. Although aware of this 1000 year old legend, this was not the reason that attracted Bridget to walk this well-trodden track.
Bridget felt called, but it was her own heart and soul doing the calling, rather than Sant-Iago and her reasons were many:
· Wanting a life re-set, refocusing on what really matters
· Walking…through towns and countryside of another country
· To live more simply for awhile· To listen to and follow her heart and soul
· To open to ‘the new’ and unknown
Some of the ‘new’ things that emerged which she didn’t expect were:
· Making friends
· Having fun
· Starting to write poetry (which she used to hate!)
· Writing & publishing a book: I Am Calling You under the alias name of ‘unnamed woman’ https://pegasuspublishers.com/books/unnamed-woman/i-am-calling-you

Walking the Camino also offered Bridget the opportunity to connect with others on a deeper level. She met pilgrims from all over the world, and the shared experience of walking created a sense of camaraderie and mutual support. The conversations and connections made on the Camino were life-changing, and Bridget found a sense of community that became a precious gift.
The transformative power of personal pilgrimage comes from the journey itself. The challenges faced on the Camino, whether physical, emotional, or spiritual, help us to grow and evolve. As Bridget walked, she discovered a personal strength and resilience, she came to understand the interconnectedness of all things and the true transformative power of personal pilgrimage.
Walking the Camino de Santiago was a powerful way for Bridget to connect with herself, with others, and with the world around her. If you're feeling a call to embark on a journey of self-discovery, we encourage you to take the leap and walk a ‘Camino de Santiago’ that has meaning for you. You never know what kind of transformative experiences may be waiting for you.
Thanks for reading and best wishes on your journey
